We Insist! is a French alternative rock band formed in 1995 in Paris, France. Inspired by Max Roach's album We Insist! Freedom Now Suite (1960), their lineup initially played funk standards before developing a unique sound. Their first release, the five-track self-titled EP We Insist! (1998), was followed by the debut album I Witness (1999). We Insist! released several albums, including Inner Pond (2001) and Crude (2004), under the Le Triton label. A collaboration with Exile on Mainstream led to notable releases like Oh Things are So Corruptible! (2006) and The Babel Inside Was Terrible (2009). In 2014, their lineup released a self-titled album We Insist! (2014), followed by Wax and Wane (2017). Their music was featured on Radio France's Peinture fraîche, with the track "La Valseuse" serving as the show's theme. We Insist! performed extensively across Europe and Japan, collaborating with acts like Unsane.
