Vitalij Margulis, born 16â¯Aprilâ¯1928 in the city of Kharkov (now Kharkiv), was a Ukrainian pianist and music theorist. He received early piano lessons from his father, whose teacher, Alexander Horowitz, had studied with Alexander Scriabin, and later trained at the Leningrad Conservatory under Samarij Sawshinskij, where he held a private piano class from 1958 until his emigration in 1974. He performed over a thousand concerts across Russia and later taught at the Musik Hochschule in Freiburg, Germany, in 1975, and at the University of California, Losâ¯Angeles, in 1994, while conducting seminars worldwide. His recordings include Chopin: Sonata Nos.â¯2 & â¯3 â Waltzes â Polonaise, "heroische" (2009) and Chopin: Etudes, Op.â¯10 â Grande Polonaise â Nocturne "Nocturne" (2009). He died in Losâ¯Angeles on 29â¯Mayâ¯2011.
