Biography

The Japanese rock band Vistlip formed in Tokyo in July 2007. Inspired by iconic Japanese acts — including the visual kei bands X Japan, L'Arc-en-Ciel, and Luna Sea — as well American groups like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, Vistlip began exploring a diverse sound that touched upon alternative rock, pop punk, glam, and electronica. Vocalist Tomo, bassist Rui, drummer Tohya, and guitarists Yuh and Umi introduced that sound with the band's first EP, Revolver, in April 2008, with the debut single "Sara" following that September. The follow-up singles "alo[n]e" and "Drop Note" both arrived during the final stretch of 2008, and the band returned in 2009 with a second EP, Patriot, as well as the full-length debut album Theater. That same year, the single "Ozone" became the theme song of the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, marking the first of Vistlip's many tie-ins with various anime franchises. Order Made, Vistlip's next album, was released in 2011, and Vistlip remained active throughout the next two years, releasing both an EP and an album — Gloster and Chronus, respectively — in 2013. The full-length records Layout (2015), BitterSweet (2017), and Style (2018) followed. Vistlip celebrated more than a dozen years of successful rock & roll releases with the compilation album Memento Ice in 2020, then returned to the Japanese charts two years later with M.E.T.A., which reached Number 69 in mid-2022.
