Vern & Ray, a musical duo from the United States, were formed in 1958 after Vern Williams and Ray Park met in Stockton, California, in 1957. Both had prior musical experience; Park had already released a record as a country musician. The duo performed traditional bluegrass music. In 1961, they recorded several songs that were released by Starday Records the following year. They returned in 1966 with new banjo player Herb Pedersen, and achieved greater success. In 1967, they moved to Nashville but struggled to establish themselves and parted ways in 1969, with the final disbandment occurring in 1974. Despite limited commercial success, Vern & Ray were noted for their influence on California bluegrass. A live recording from a 1968 concert was released as the album San Francisco - 1968 (2006).
