Venom is a British heavy metal band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1978, initially known as Guillotine and later Dwarfstar before adopting Venom. Their lineup included Jeff "Mantas" Dunn on guitar, Anthony "Abaddon" Bray on drums, and Conrad "Cronos" Lant on bass and vocals. Their first two albums, Welcome to Hell (1981) and Black Metal (1982), significantly influenced the development of black metal, thrash metal, and extreme metal genres. Venom's music was characterized by its dark themes, seen in songs and albums like "In League with Satan/Live Like an Angel" (1981) and Black Metal (1982). The band released several notable albums including At War with Satan (1984) and Resurrection (2000), and toured extensively, notably with Slayer and Exodus. Venom disbanded in 2002 but reunited in 2005, releasing albums like Fallen Angels (2011) and Storm the Gates (2018).
