Velma Middleton, born September 1, 1917 in Holdenville, Oklahoma, was an American jazz vocalist and entertainer. She began her career as a chorus girl and dancer, performing acrobatic splits on stage. After singing with Connie McLean and his Rhythm Orchestra on a tour of South America, she joined Louis Armstrong's big band in 1942. Middleton appeared with Armstrong in soundies and continued to perform with him after his orchestra disbanded in 1947, joining his All-Stars group. She was known for her comic duets with Armstrong, including "That's My Desire" and "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Middleton also recorded eight solo tracks for Dootone Records in 1948 and 1951. While touring with Louis Armstrong in Sierra Leone in January 1961, she suffered a stroke and passed away the following month in Freetown.
