Biography

Vassili Pavlovitch Soloviov-Sedoï, born on April 25, 1907 in Saint-Pétersbourg, was a Russian composer. He studied at the Leningrad Conservatory until 1936 and began his career writing numerous songs, melodies, and film scores. His breakthrough came with "Moscow Nights", one of his most recognized compositions. Throughout his career, Soloviov-Sedoï collaborated with lyricist Alexeï Fatianov on notable works such as "The Nightingales" and "We Haven't Been Home in a Long Time". He released several albums including Песни Василия Соловьева-Седого (1955) and Songs By V. Soloviev-Sedoi (1962). Soloviov-Sedoï received two Stalin Prizes and the title of People's Artist of the USSR. He passed away on December 2, 1979 in Saint Petersburg.
