Biography

Vasko Vassilev (born 14 October 1970, in Sofia) is a Bulgarian violinist and conductor. He began performing publicly at age eight and recorded his first album with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. After winning second prize at the Marguerite Long–Jacques Thibaud Competition in 1987 and the Paganini competition in 1989, he relocated to London. In 1994, Vassilev became the youngest concertmaster of the Royal Opera House. His conducting debut occurred at the Royal Albert Hall in 2005. His discography included the solo album Free (2007) and the autobiography Vasko @ 40 (2010). In 2011, he served as a judge on the Bulgarian version of X Factor. Vassilev collaborated with musicians including Plácido Domingo, Sting, and The Rolling Stones. In 2023, he led the orchestra at the coronation of Charles III and Camilla. He also taught masterclasses at the Royal College of Music and Trinity College of Music.
