Biography

Vanessa Oshiro, born on November 26, 1981, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is an enka singer with deep roots in Okinawa, Japan, through her family lineage. From a young age, Oshiro was exposed to Okinawan folk songs and Japanese music, sparking her interest in enka, which she began singing at local karaoke contests among the Japanese diaspora. Her career took a significant turn when she won an NHK Nodo Jiman contest in Argentina in 2001, which led to her being scouted by a staff member from Toshiba EMI during a performance where she shared the stage with enka singer Sakamoto Fuyumi. Oshiro made her Japanese debut in August 2003 with the single "Kamome mo Tobanai Umi da yo" under EMI Music Japan. Known for her energetic stage presence. Her musical repertoire includes a blend of Argentine tango and Okinawan themes, reflecting her multicultural background. Despite facing career challenges, including a contractual end with Toshiba EMI, Oshiro continued to persevere, eventually opening a karaoke cafe in Gifu, Japan, in 2010. Her journey through various record labels led to the release of several singles, including "Ore no Ryoka" on April 22, 2015, under Victor Entertainment, demonstrating her resilience and dedication to her craft.
