Uwe "Banton" Schäfer, was reggae singer born in Lage, Germany. He developed an interest in reggae music through a Bob Marley record played by a schoolmate and further inspired during a trip to Jamaica. In 1984, Uwe Banton began performing as a singer with friends, singing in Patois over popular riddims. He joined Junior Mandingo's band One Vibe in 1992 and later formed his own band Movements in 1993. With Movements, Uwe Banton released several albums including One Earth (1996) and His Majesty's Works (2003). The band performed at major reggae festivals such as Summerjam and Splash!. In 2007, Uwe Banton released his debut solo album Jah Roots, which featured collaborations with artists like Black Dillinger.
