Biography
TZ da Coronel, born Matheus de Araújo Santos on July 6, 2001, in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, is a Brazilian funk and hip-hop artist whose music blends trap, funk carioca, and rap influences. His artistic name combines the nickname âMatheuzinhoâ (TZ) with "Coronel," a nod to the street where he grew up. He began his musical journey in freestyle battles at Morro do Limão in 2017, later gaining attention with his breakout hit "Poesia Acústica 13" and debut album à O Trem! in 2022, featuring collaborations with artists like MC Cabelinho and Veigh. In 2023, he cemented his reputation with Dacoromode, a critically acclaimed album that showcased his lyrical dexterity and production prowess, and founded his own label, Cúpula, under Sony's The Orchard Brasil. TZ da Coronel achieved mainstream success with the 2024 single "Qual é seu desejo?," a collaboration with Ryu, the Runner, which topped the Billboard Brasil Hot 100 and solidified his position in the Brazilian music scene. His third studio album, Direto da Selva (2024), continued to highlight his innovative approach to music, blending organic funk roots with modern trap elements, making TZ da Coronel a dynamic force in contemporary Brazilian urban music. Later in 2024, TZ da Coronel extended that cycle with Direto da Selva Deluxe, an eight-track expansion released in November. Around the same time, his profile widened internationally when Vevo selected him for its DSCVR Artists to Watch 2025 program, making him the first Brazilian rapper included in that campaign. In 2025, he stayed in constant motion through a run of singles and collaborations, including âOdisseia,â âNossa Chanceâ with DUDA BEAT, âGanânciaâ with Raflow and Mc Rodson, and âAnimais Traidores 2,â while also reaching a new live milestone with his first appearance at The Town in São Paulo, where Brazilian media framed the show as one of the biggest productions of his career. He closed that year with the mixtape MIXTAPE DE VERÃO: GOSTOSAS OUVEM TZ, a 10-track summer project built around unreleased material and guest spots including Veigh. In 2026, TZ da Coronel opened another chapter with PALÃCIO DE LONA, a full collaborative album with MC Cabelinho that pushed his music back toward a harder rap-centered sound, and he also moved into acting with a role in the fifth season of Arcanjo Renegado, extending his career beyond music while keeping his place near the center of Brazilâs current rap and trap scene.
