Known in her home country as the âSinging Princess,â Zhuo Yi-ting (October 2, 1981), aka Timi Zhuo, is a Mandopop singer and actress from Taiwan, mostly known for her soulful rendition of Chinese New Year and opera songs. Born in the Xinzhuang District, Zhuo started singing and playing piano from a very early age and released her first album in Taiwanese Hokkien when she was just 6 years old. She jumped to fame in the early 90s with a series of features on a couple of popular Taiwanese soap operas and delivered a string of highly-acclaimed albums such as Small Princess6 (1990), Love Dream 1 (1995), and Love Dream 2 (1995). While considered a bona fide pop star in her native Taiwan, it wasnât until the early aughts that Zhuo crossed over to the Mandarin market with the commercial pop blockbuster Wake, Up Angel (2000). Fame took its toll, though, and she retreated from the public eye for two years to focus on her personal well being. After her comeback in 2002, she continued to release music at a prolific rate with the albums Give You a Big New Year Cake (2005), Gong Xi Fa Cai (2007), and an eponymous LP that saw the light in 2011.
