Biography
Born on 5 January 1985 in Kalispell, Montana, multi-talented US singer-songwriter, guitarist, and TV star Tim Montana (born January 5, 1985) grew up in an off-grid trailer in Butte, Montana and famously taught himself to play guitar by candelight. In 2003, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career and was encouraged by guitarist and producer Johnny Hiland to record his debut album Iron Horse four years later. After assembling the Shrednecks with guitarist Kyle Rife, drummer Brian Wolff, and bassist Bryce Paul, he fortuitously crossed paths with ZZ Top founder Ben Gibbons with whom he formed a songwriting partnership. In 2013, the pair recorded "This Beard Came Here to Party," which gained prominence as an anthem of the Boxton Red Sox, while a handful of other tracks were also released by the duo. He put out an album called Tim Montana and the Shrednecks in 2016, which featured contributions from Ben Gibbons on four tracks. American Thread arrived in 2020, followed by Reno in 2022, featuring Colbie Caillat, Billy F. Gibbons, and Matt Sorum. Also in 2022, Tim Montana signed with Music Knox Records/BBR Music Group (the latter being part of BMG Rights Management) and released Long Shots, which was produced by Michael Knox. The following year, he scored his first chart victory with "Devil You Know," which went to number 31 on the US Mainstream Rock chart. Issued on July 2024, his fifth solo full length Savage was more rock-oriented, including the title track, which was ranked in the LyricFind chart. In 2025, Tim Montana supported Myles Kennedy on the North American Art of Letting Go Tour while developing the follow-up to Savage. He returned in 2026 with the introspective single âBreak Me Down,â followed by a cover of ZZ Topâs âBrown Sugarâ featuring Billy F Gibbons and Slash. On July 31, Tim Montana released Entire State of Tim Montana through BMG. The 16-track album continued his move toward hard rock and Southern rock while incorporating his Montana roots and more personal songwriting. It featured Jerry Cantrell on âKinda Like It,â Royale Lynn on âCrown of Ash,â and appearances by Martin Sheen, Charlie Sheen, Robert Patrick, First Crazy Dog, and WolfBear.
