Biography

Dong-Suk Kang, born on April 28, 1954 in Seoul, South Korea, is a violinist. He played his first concert at age eight and moved to New York in 1967 to study at the Juilliard School, later completing his education with Ivan Galamian at the Curtis Institute of Music. Kang won the San Francisco Symphony Foundation Competition and the Merriweather Post Competition in 1971. He has performed with orchestras worldwide, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Notable collaborations include performances with conductors Charles Dutoit, Kurt Masur, Yehudi Menuhin, and Seiji Ozawa. Kang's repertoire spans standard works and lesser-known pieces, with recordings such as Elgar: Violin Concerto In B Minor, Op. 61 / Overture: Cockaigne (In London Town), Op.40. He received awards including the Grand Prix du Disque and Académie Charles Cros Grand Prix.
