Baillargau Raymond, known professionally as Ti Roro, was born around 1915 in Haiti and established himself as a drummer who brought Haitian Vodou and Afro-Haitian drumming traditions to international stages. His first album, Best Drummer in Haiti (1956), introduced his powerful rhythmic style to a wider audience. Over the next decade, Ti Roro released a series of albums that highlighted his drumming prowess, including Hi-Fi Haitian Drums with Issa El-Saieh (1957) and Ti Roro et ses Tambours Vaudou (1971). He collaborated with artists such as singer Guy Durosier and dancer Jean-Léon Destiné, and his work influenced jazz drummer Max Roach. Ti Roroâs recordings continued to circulate posthumously, with a Best of Ti Roro compilation released in 2002, and he is remembered as a pivotal figure in the global appreciation of Haitian drumming.
