The Sexual Objects are an Edinburgh-based band formed in the late 2000s by Davy Henderson, best known for his work with post-punk pioneers The Fire Engines, as well as Win and Nectarine No. 9. The group originally featured Henderson on vocals and guitar, alongside Douglas MacIntyre (guitar), Ian Holford (drums), and Simon Smeeton (bass). Their music blends art-rock, post-punk, pop, and funk influences, marked by Hendersonâs witty, surreal lyricism and a sly melodic sense. Their debut album, Cucumber (2009, Creeping Bent), received critical praise for its sharp songwriting and adventurous production, followed by Marshmallow (2020), which showcased a more reflective, groove-oriented side while maintaining the bandâs idiosyncratic charm. The Sexual Objects have remained a cult favourite in the Scottish underground scene, noted for their mix of sophistication, humour, and left-field pop sensibility. In 2025, they released Orangutang, notable for including three tracks produced by Boards of Canada.
