The Real People, a British rock band, was formed in Liverpool in 1986. Initially known as JoJo and the Real People, the group consisted of Tony Griffiths on bass and vocals, Chris Griffiths on guitars and vocals, Martin Lappin on guitar, Tony McGuigan on drums, and James Breckon on keyboards. The band began their career playing in local clubs and released a few singles that did not achieve commercial success. The Real People signed with Polydor Records in 1987 and released their self-titled debut album in 1991, which peaked at number 59 on the UK Albums Chart. In 1992, their label cancelled the follow-up album to their first LP, leading the band to discard the material and focus on a new project. The Real People went through several lineup changes throughout the mid-1990s, eventually going on hiatus in 1998. They reformed for live shows in 2002 and another reunion in 2008, which resulted in two additional albums released in 2010 (Think Positive) and 2016 (Monday Morning Breakdown). Notably, The Real People contributed to the early career of Oasis by helping record their demo tape that secured them a record deal.
