The Rationals were an American rock band formed in 1964 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with Scott Morgan as lead singer and guitarist. Their first single, "Gave My Love", released on local label A 2 Records in 1965, garnered a regional hit and led to a national distribution deal with Cameo/Parkway; the subsequent single "Respect" reached number 92 on the Billboard Hot⯠100 in 1966. The groupâs selfâtitled debut album, The Rationals, was issued by Crewe Records in early 1970, followed by the live release Temptation 'bout to Get Me in 1995. In 2009, Big Beat released the twoâCD anthology Think Rational!, compiling the midâ1960s recordings. The band disbanded shortly after the 1970 album, and Scott Morgan continued to perform with Detroitâarea acts such as Sonic's Rendezvous Band. The Rationals were inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends online Hall of Fame in 2010, and their work has been featured on compilations such as Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965â1968. The groupâs legacy was celebrated with the release of a deluxe edition of The Rationals in 2018 and recognition of their contribution to the 1960s garage and soul scenes.
