Biography

The Immediate, an avant‑garde Irish rock quartet from Malahide, County Dublin, was formed in the early 2000s by David Hedderman (vocals, guitar, bass), Conor O’Brien (vocals, guitar, drums), Peter Toomey (vocals, drums, bass) and later joined by Barra Heavey (keys, guitar, bass, drums, backing vocals). The group began as The Subterraneans, releasing the self‑released EP "Don’t Get Lost" in 2003 and gaining early exposure through college gigs and a limited‑edition single "Never Seen/Say This" issued by Fierce Panda Records in 2005. In 2006 they signed to Fantastic Plastic Records, recorded their debut album In Towers and Clouds with producer Chris Shaw, and released the EP "make our devils FLOW" the same year; the album entered the Irish Albums Chart at number 33 on 25 August 2006 and was nominated for the 2006 Choice Music Prize. The Immediate performed at the 2007 Meteor Awards and the Choice Music Prize ceremony on 28 February 2007, and headlined the RTÉ 2fm 2moro 2our show in 2006. After a national tour and a scheduled appearance at Oxegen 2007, the band announced their split on 11 May 2007 citing “existential differences”; a final song, "The Mist Above the Mind", was released for free download shortly thereafter.
