Biography

The Icarus Line, formed in Los Angeles, California in 1998, began as a high‑school rock collective that evolved from the group Kanker Sores; the founding lineup featured Joe Cardamone on vocals, Aaron North on guitar, Lance Arnao on bass, and Aaron Austin on drums. The band’s breakthrough arrived with the 1998 EP Red & Black Attack, released on the New American Dream label, followed by the split 7‑inch with Ink & Dagger and the single "Kill Cupid With A Nail File" on Buddyhead. In 2001 the debut album Mono was issued, and the group embarked on an eight‑week European tour, later supporting Primal Scream and A Perfect Circle. The 2004 release of Penance Soiree on V2 Records marked a stylistic shift toward a noisier, post‑punk aesthetic. Subsequent albums Black Lives at the Golden Coast (2007), Avowed Slavery (2014), and All Things Under Heaven (2015) expanded the band’s catalog, while the 2010 single "We Sick" highlighted collaborative efforts with artists such as Annie Hardy. The group toured globally, including a 2012 world tour with Killing Joke, and released live recordings such as Live in London (2012). After Joe Cardamone departed in 2015 to pursue a solo career, the band ceased activity; Alvin DeGuzman died in October 2017. The Icarus Line’s 2018 documentary The Icarus Line Must Die preserved their legacy in contemporary rock history.
