Biography
The Herb Spectacles, a Dutch mariachi band, formed in the Netherlands in 1999. The group was inspired by artists such as Chet Baker and Herb Alpert's Tijuana Brass. The Herb Spectacles were founded when Marcel Kruup and Maarten Heijblok, both former members of Treble Spankers, collaborated with musicians from Amsterdam's Klezmerband, adding a marimba player and percussionist to the lineup. Their debut album, The Incredible World of..., was released in June 2003 through Excelsior Recordings. Following this release, The Herb Spectacles performed at notable Dutch music festivals such as North Sea Jazz and Lowlands. In 2006, they released their second album, Bongolitoâs Hideaway.
