Biography
The Firesign Theatre, an American surreal comedy group, was formed in 1966 in Los Angeles by Peter Bergman, Philip Proctor, Phil Austin, and David Ossman. Their career began on Radio Free Oz on KPFK FM. In 1967, they signed with Columbia Records and released their debut album, Waiting for the Electrician or Someone Like Him. The group produced several notable albums including "Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers" (1970), which was nominated for a Hugo Award in 1971, followed by I Think We're All Bozos on This Bus (1971), Dear Friends (1972), Everything You Know Is Wrong (1974), In the Next World, You're on Your Own (1975), and others. In 2005, their album Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers was added to the National Recording Registry by the US Library of Congress. The Firesign Theatre continued performing until Bergman's death in 2012.
