Biography

The Family Stand is an American soul and R&B group based in New York City, active since the late 1980s. The trio consists of Sandra St. Victor, Peter Lord Moreland, and Vernon Jeffrey Smith. Their breakthrough came with the international hit "Ghetto Heaven" from their album Chain, which was remixed by Nellee Hooper & Jazzy B of Soul II Soul in 1990. This single reached number 10 in the UK Singles Chart in April 1990. The group also contributed significantly to Paula Abdul's album Spellbound. Their subsequent album, Moon In Scorpio, released in 1991, was considered their greatest artistic achievement by Lord Moreland. After a period of hiatus and internal changes, including the departure of St. Victor and her replacement with Jacci McGhee, The Family Stand released Connected in 1997. The original trio reunited in 2006 for a concert at New York City Central Park's Summerstage, leading to a reunion tour and the album Super Sol Nova in 2007. 2010 saw the release of the single "Story" in 2010, followed by the full-length project In A Thousand Years.
