The Composers Quartet, a string quartet from the United States of America, was founded in 1965. The group gained recognition for performing new works by contemporary composers, notably premiering quartets by Elliott Carter and Ruth Crawford Seeger. In the early 1970s, they were the quartet-in-residence at New England Conservatory. By 1975, they transitioned to become the quartet-in-residence at Columbia University, remaining there for over two decades. The Composers Quartet performed quartets by more than 60 American composers and toured extensively abroad. Notable albums include String Quartets Nos. 1 & 2 (1970) and Chamber Music By Elliott Carter ⢠String Quartet No. 3 / Eight Etudes And A Fantasy (1983). The group remained active until the late 1990s, with members including Matthew Raimondi on violin, Anahid Ajemian on violin, Bernard Zaslav on viola, and Seymour Barab on cello.
