The Boxmasters, an American rock band, was formed in Bellflower, California, in 2007 by actor Billy Bob Thornton and Grammy Award-winning recording engineer J.D. Andrew. Before forming the group, Thornton had a long history of involvement in music, having played in bands since middle school, worked as a roadie, and released four solo albums during the 2000s. The Boxmasters' debut album, The Boxmasters, was released in 2008 by Vanguard Records. The band's early tours included a U.S. tour ending in Los Angeles in September 2008 and appearances at the South by Southwest festival in March 2009. They opened for Willie Nelson in 2009 and 2010 before taking an almost five-year hiatus from touring to focus on writing albums. Notable releases include Christmas Cheer (2008) and Modbilly (2009). Their album, Boxmasters '66, was released in 2022.
