Biography

The Band of the Royal Irish Regiment, a military band based in the United Kingdom, was established as the regimental band for the Royal Irish Regiment in 1993. Formed primarily of volunteer musicians with a permanent staff instructor, the band's origins trace back to the Royal Irish Rangers band, which participated in notable events such as the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 1979 and deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm in January 1991. The band uniquely combined bugles, pipes, and drums from both regiments, making it one of the largest regimental musical ensembles in the British Army before its reorganization in October 2007. Notable performances include leading a parade at the National Memorial Arboretum in 2012 and participating in the Rangers' golden jubilee celebrations in 2018. Their regimental march is "Killaloe", which is also associated with the South African Irish Regiment.
