Alberto Teta Lando, known professionally as Teta Lando, was born on June 2, 1948, in Mbanza-Kongo, Angola. He began his music career in the 1960s and wrote his first song in 1964. His breakthrough came with the release of "Kinguibanza" in 1965/1966. Teta Lando was a founding member of the group Merengues, and his work often explored themes of Angolan identity, war, exile, love, and family. He released several notable albums including Tia Chica (1974) and Independência (1975). Some of his most recognized songs include "Irmao ama teu irmao" (1975) and "Eu vou voltar" (1981). Teta Lando lived in Paris from 1978 to 1989. He passed away on July 14, 2008, due to cancer. His funeral was attended by the Angolan head of state, José Eduardo Dos Santos.
