Teresa Fay "Terri" Gibbs, born on June 15, 1954, in Miami, Florida, is an American country music artist and singer. Blind since infancy due to retrolental fibroplasia, Gibbs began playing piano at age three and sang in church choirs and talent contests. At 17, she opened for Bill Anderson, and later moved to Nashville, Tennessee, on the advice of Chet Atkins, to pursue a country music career. After initially struggling to secure a record deal, Gibbs signed with MCA Records in 1980 following a demo tape submission. Gibbs' debut single "Somebody's Knockin'" from her 1981 album Somebody's Knockin' reached number 8 on the U.S. country charts, number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number 3 on the Adult Contemporary charts. This success earned her the Academy of Country Music's Top New Female Vocalist award in 1981 and the Country Music Association's inaugural Horizon Award. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Gibbs' subsequent albums included I'm a Lady (1981), Some Days It Rains All Night Long (1982), and Over Easy (1983). In 1985, she released her fifth album, Old Friends, under Warner Bros. Records. Gibbs later shifted her focus to Contemporary Christian music, releasing albums such as Turn Around (1987) and Comfort the People (1988). Her final Christian album, Sum It All Up, was released in 2017.
