Biography
Tarmo Peltokoski, born on April 21, 2000 in Vaasa, Finland, is a conductor and pianist. He began piano studies at age eight and started conducting under Jorma Panula at 14. In 2017, he competed in the International Maj Lind Piano Competition. Peltokoski's breakthrough came during the COVID-19 lockdown when he was invited by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen for guest-conducting engagements in 2020, leading to his appointment as principal guest conductor in January 2022. He also became music director and artistic director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra starting with the 2022â2023 season. In May 2024, he released his debut album Mozart Symphonies with Deutsche Grammophon. Peltokoski has received several awards, including the OPUS Klassik Young Artist of the Year (Conducting) in 2023 and Classic FM's 30 Rising Stars in 2024.
