Biography

Ta Mara & The Seen is an American R&B group based in Minneapolis, formed in 1985. Lead singer Margaret Cox, known by her stage name Pegi Ta Mara, was born in Kenitra, Morocco and moved to Minneapolis at age seven. The group included bassist Keith Woodson, guitarist Oliver Leiber, keyboardist Gina Fellicetta, and drummer Jamie Chez. Ta Mara & The Seen signed with A&M Records to capitalize on the mid-1980s success of the "Minneapolis sound," which featured acts like Prince and Vanity 6. Their breakthrough came with the single "Everybody Dance", which peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 1986, reaching number 3 on the U.S. R&B chart and number 17 on the U.S. Dance chart. The group's self-titled debut album, produced by former Time guitarist Jesse Johnson, included additional tracks such as "Affection" and a ballad titled "Long Cold Nights". In 1986, they released another single, "Thinking About You". A follow-up album, Blueberry Gossip, was released in 1988 but failed to match the success of their debut. The group disbanded in 1989.
