Singer and actress Suzanne Gabriello was born Suzanne Galopet in Paris on January 24, 1932. Daughter of actor and chansonnier André Galopet, known as André Gabriello (1896-1975), she followed in her father's footsteps and made a name for herself with film roles from 1949, appearing in Folie douce and La Rue sans loi (1950), then Du mouron pour les petits oiseaux (Marcel Carné, 1962) and Un gosse de la butte (1964). In 1959, Suzanne Gabriello began singing with an EP of Roger Riffard covers, before specializing in parody with the following Sur Scène (1960), recorded at Bobino. After forming the comedy trio Les Filles à Papa with Pierrette Souplex and Françoise Dorin, the singer joined forces with the rock group Les Players in 1963 to mock the twist craze on the Rata Twist EP, followed, in the run-up to the presidential elections, by the sketch "Déclaration 1964" with Georges de Caunes and Roger Couderc. Signed by Barclay, Suzanne Gabriello strengthened her humorous repertoire with her own parodies of Jean Ferrat ("Pourtant, que sa campagne est belle"), Enrico Macias ("Les Flics de mon pays"), Charles Aznavour ("Je m'voyais déjà en bas de l'affiche") and Georges Brassens ("Les Potins d'abord") in 1965, followed by Nino Ferrer ("Votez hein bon! "and "Z'avez pas lu Kafka") and Pierre Perret ("Les Jolies colonies de la France") in 1966. After other sarcastic songs in the same vein, in 1968 she hosted the children's program Ohé jeudi! in which she sang "Ãa peut pas s'inventer (les mots d'enfants)". Between appearances in the TV series Les Faucheurs de marguerites by filmmaker Marcel Camus (1974) and Le Temps des as by Claude Boissol (1978), Suzanne Gabriello returned to song with the tribute Les Comiques (1976). In 1988, she turned her attention to her artistic work with the Nevada collective. Also known for her romance with Jacques Brel, whose classic "Ne me quitte pas " she claimed to be the subject of after their break-up, Suzanne Gabriello had an affair with Guy Bedos. Suffering from cancer, she died on August 9, 1992 at the age of 60.
