Biography

Supermerk2, an Argentine cumbia villera band, was founded in 2003 by Óscar "Chanchín" Sotelo and Sergio "Fideo" Galván in Laferrere, Buenos Aires. Sotelo began the group while working as a hawker, and the ensemble quickly gained traction with its debut single "Que Calor" from the 2008 album La Lata, which achieved gold certification. Subsequent releases followed a steady progression: "La Resaka," "El Avión," "Mulo Raro," and "La Gorda," each expanding the band’s regional reach. The group released a series of singles such as "Levanten Las Manos", "Que Calor" and "Muevelo" that charted on local radio charts, and they toured extensively across Argentina, solidifying their presence in the tropical music scene. Supermerk2 kept momentum with A Puro Saque-ooo (2005) and Es Lo Que Hay (2006), doubling down on punchline hooks and crowd-call choruses, before expanding their catalog with the compilation ¿Qué No Vale Nada? (2009). Over time, Galván and Sotelo pursued separate paths, and Sotelo remained the face of the brand, with Supermerk2 continuing to circulate both legacy hits and newer material for streaming-era audiences—ranging from the single “Y Ahora Me Voy” (2017) to the full-length Club Atlético Chanchin (2018), then later singles such as “La Resaka” (2021), “Que Calor (Remix)” (2021), and “La Inconforme” (2022).
