Biography

Sun Kil Moon, an American folk rock project from San Francisco, California, was founded in 2002 by vocalist and guitarist Mark Kozelek as a continuation of his previous band Red House Painters. The initial lineup included former Red House Painters members Anthony Koutsos and Jerry Vessel, along with Geoff Stanfield and Tim Mooney. The project’s debut album, Ghosts Of The Great Highway, was released in 2003 and received critical acclaim. The band’s third studio album, April, was released in 2008 and featured guest vocals from Will Oldham and Ben Gibbard. Kozelek then largely recorded alone on Admiral Fell Promises (2010) and Among the Leaves (2012). The project’s sixth studio album, Benji (2014), was released in 2014 to widespread critical acclaim.
