Biography
Staraya Derevnya, an experimental psychedelic band from Israel, was formed in 1994. The group was named after the historic district of Saint Petersburg and was known for their unique blend of blues, folk music, jazz, and rock, characterized by free-form jams and hypnotic rhythmic patterns. Their debut album Expedition was released in 1999. Over the years, Staraya Derevnya has released several notable albums including From Inside the Log (2010), Kadita Sessions (2016), and Inwards opened the Floor (2020). The band's live performances were played in near-total darkness, accompanied by projected animated paintings. Staraya Derevnya has collaborated with various artists, including Hans Gruselâs Krankenkabinet and Steep Gloss. Subsequent releases include Boulder Blues (2022) and Garden Window Escape (2025).
