Spiral Starecase, an American pop band from Sacramento, California, formed in 1964 under the name The Fydallions. Initially a four-piece instrumental group, they began performing at local venues and talent contests. In 1968, after signing with Columbia Records and changing their name to Spiral Starecase, they released two regional hit singles produced by Gary Usher. Their breakthrough came in 1969 with the release of "More Today Than Yesterday", which peaked at number 12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number 7 on the Cash Box Top 100. The song was featured on their debut album, More Today Than Yesterday, and reached Number 1 on KHJ Boss Radio 30. Despite subsequent singles like "She's Ready" and "No One for Me to Turn To", none matched the success of their hit single. Internal disputes and poor management led to the band's disbandment in 1970. Pat Upton later worked as a session musician, while Harvey Kaye reformed the band in the mid-1970s with a different lineup. Notable members Bobby Raymond and Harvey Kaye passed away in 1984 and 2008 respectively, followed by Pat Upton in 2016. "More Today Than Yesterday" has been covered by various artists and featured in several films, including My Girl (1991) and The Waterboy (1998).
