Biography

Sonora Carruseles is a Colombian salsa group formed in Medellín in 1995 that emerged from the musical vision of Mario Rincón Pachanga, former musical director at Discos Fuentes. The ensemble quickly adopted a retro 1970s salsa aesthetic while revitalizing Boogaloo and incorporating cumbias into its repertoire. After releasing their first album in 1995, they released ¡Tropicaliente! in 1997, establishing the group’s signature blend of traditional salsa rhythms with contemporary production. Over the next decade, Sonora Carruseles released a steady stream of albums—Heavy Salsa (1998), Salsa y fuego (1999), Espectacular (1999), Con Todos Los Hierros - Salsa brava (2000), De una vez gozando (2002), ¡La salsa la traigo yo! (2003), and Salsa pa'l mundo (2013)—each contributing to the group’s expanding catalogue. The 2015 single "La Salsa la Traigo Yo!" was added to the official Spotify playlist of U.S. President Barack Obama.
