Biography

Solid is a pioneering South Korean R&B and hip-hop trio, formed in 1992 in Orange County, California, by Johan Kim (Kim Jo-han), Jaeyoon Chong (Jae Chong), and Joon Lee (John Lee). They debuted in Seoul in 1993 and quickly rose to fame in the mid-1990s, becoming one of the most influential acts in shaping the modern K-pop sound. Known as the "Kings of R&B" in South Korea, they introduced American R&B, hip-hop, and rap into Korean music, blending these genres with local influences. Their breakout hit, “Holding the End of the Night” (1995), solidified their place in K-pop history, selling over a million copies and topping charts. Other popular tracks like “My Only Friend” and “You Are My First and Last” made them household names. Over their initial four-year run, they released four studio albums and one live album, selling over four million records in Korea. Solid's members were among the first Korean Americans to succeed in Korea, paving the way for future Korean artists from abroad. After disbanding in 1997 to pursue individual careers, the trio reunited in 2018 with the album Into the Light and held a successful concert series in Seoul.
