Omen, an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, was formed in 1983 by guitarist Kenny Powell. The band initially consisted of vocalist J.D. Kimball, bassist Jody Henry, and drummer Steve Wittig. Omen signed with Metal Blade Records in 1984 and released their debut album Battle Cry. This was followed by the albums Warning of Danger (1985) and The Curse (1986), along with the EP Nightmares (1987). In 1988, vocalist Coburn Pharr replaced J.D. Kimball for the album Escape to Nowhere, after which Omen disbanded. The band reunited in 1996 with a new lineup including Kenny Powell's son Greg Powell on vocals and guitar. They released Reopening the Gates (1997) before Greg Powell left to form his own band, replaced by Kevin Goocher. In 2003, Omen released Eternal Black Dawn. The original vocalist J.D. Kimball passed away in 2003 due to cancer. On October 12, 2025, former bass guitarist Jody Henry died from a brain hemorrhage.
