Biography

Sami Yusuf, born on July 21, 1980, in Tehran, Iran, is recognized as a British singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer of Azerbaijani descent. Raised in Ealing, West London, Yusuf developed an early interest in music, learning to play the piano, violin, oud, setar, and tonbak. In 2003, he released the debut album Al-Muʽallim, which became an international success in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia. The album's hit single "Al-Mu'allim" topped charts in Egypt and Turkey for twelve consecutive weeks. His second album, My Ummah (2005), sold over four million copies globally. In 2010, Yusuf released a third studio album, Wherever You Are. Other notable albums include Salaam (2012) and Barakah (2016). Yusuf's work addressed social, spiritual, and humanitarian issues, and he was appointed United Nations Global Ambassador for the World Food Programme in 2014.
