Biography

Samarabalouf is a French swing and jazz manouche ensemble established in 2000 in Amiens. The group was founded by musician François Petit, who studied lutherie and jazz guitar at the CIM in Paris. The original lineup included bassist Isabelle Petit-Félix and guitarist Nicolas Ionas. Their recording career began with an eponymous debut studio recording followed by the studio recording La Valche folle (2002). The ensemble reached wider visibility for its mixture of acoustic rock, tango, and country influences and performed international tours across North America and Mexico. They released the live album Profitez-en (2004). The ensemble released the studio recording Bababa (2008), which featured collaborations with musicians including Leila Bounous and Nosfell. Following a hiatus, the group resumed activity in 2014 with a lineup featuring Léo Mathieu and Michel Sanlaville. Their discography included the studio recording Up (2018) and the studio recording NoNo Future (2020). Since 2021, the ensemble has performed as a trio featuring Petit, Mathieu, and the musician Phyllipa Scammell.
