Biography

Samuel Ndonfeng, also known as Sam Fan Thomas, was born in April 1952 in Bafoussam, Cameroon, and is a Cameroonian musician, singer, songwriter, guitarist, percussionist, arranger, and studio technician. He started his career in 1969 as a guitarist with The Black Tigers, led by Andre Marie Tala. In 1976, he launched his solo career with the album Funky New Bell. His breakthrough came in 1984 with the international hit "African Typic Collection" from the album Makassi, which blended Makossa with Tchamassi rhythms. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he released several singles, including "Neng Makassi" (1985) and the album Makassi Again (1988), and toured extensively with his band MBC (Makassi Band Corporation). In the early 1990s, he focused on promoting new Cameroonian talent at Makassi Plus Studio in Douala.
