Biography
Joseph Kamaru, known professionally as KMRU, was born in Nairobi on 10 January 1997 and works as a DJ, electronic instrument player, producer and remixer. His first releases appeared in 2019 with the EP Erased, followed by the 2020 EP Odra and albums Peel, Opaquer and Jar on Editions Mego, Dagoretti Records and Seil Records respectively. In 2021 he issued Logue through Injazero, a collection of tracks recorded between 2017 and 2019 that received critical attention. 2022 saw the collaborative Limen with Aho Ssan on Subtext and the solo album Epoch on Seil Records, while 2023 produced the EP Dissolution Grip on OFNOT and Stupor on Other Power. His work has been featured by Pitchfork, The Quietus and Resident Advisor, and he has toured with Big Thief and performed at festivals such as Nyege Nyege, CTM and Berlin Atonal. Subsequent releases include Natur (2024), Forge (2024), and Kin (2026).
