Roy Montgomery, born in 1959 in London, England, is a guitarist and composer from Christchurch, New Zealand. He moved to Cologne with his family at age four before relocating to Christchurch in the mid-1960s. Montgomery's music career began in 1980 when he formed The Pin Group with Ross Humphries and Peter Stapleton. Their debut single "Ambivalence" was released on Flying Nun Records in 1981. After disbanding The Pin Group, Montgomery worked on various projects including Dadamah and Dissolve. His solo career started in the early 1990s with albums like Scenes from the South Island (1995) and Temple IV (1996). Notable collaborations include work with Flying Saucer Attack, Grouper, and Bardo Pond under Hash Jar Tempo.
