Biography

Rolande Falcinelli, born on February 18, 1920 in Paris, was a French composer, pianist, and organist who began her musical education at the Paris Conservatory in 1932. She studied under notable figures such as Isidore Philipp and Marcel Dupré. Falcinelli's breakthrough came with winning the Prix Rossini for her oratorio La Messiade in 1941 and the Second Grand Prix de Rome in composition in 1942. From 1946 to 1973, she served as the titular organist at Paris's Sacré-Cœur church and taught at institutions including the Conservatoire Américain in Fontainebleau and the École Normale de Musique. Falcinelli also composed extensively for various ensembles. She passed away on June 11, 2006 in Pau, France. Posthumous releases include the albums Quatre Grandes Improvisations en Concert (2009) and Improvisations (2010).
