Biography
Roger Webb (1934â2002) was a British jazz pianist and composer from Bristol. Webb was a self-taught musician who began performing during his national service with the Royal Air Force in Egypt. Upon returning to Britain, he led the Roger Webb Trio (1963â1965) and worked as a music director for West End theatres. During this period, Webb collaborated with Vera Lynn, Bette Davis, and Shirley Bassey. In the 1970s, Webb became a prolific composer of library music and film scores, including One Brief Summer (1970) and The Godsend (1980). He composed television themes for Strange Report, Hammer House of Horror, and The Gentle Touch. His discography includes the albums Vocal Patterns (1970), Free as Air (1972), and Moments (1975). Webb received the UNICEF Danny Kaye Award for the song âMake Your Own Rainbowâ. Webb died in London on December 19, 2002.
