Biography

Roger Roger was a French composer and conductor who was born in 1911. He began conducting in music halls in 1929 and later transitioned into broadcast music. By the late 1930s, he composed scores for feature films including Fou d'amour (1943) and L'atomique Monsieur Placido (1950). His career expanded significantly after he signed with Chappell & Co to contribute to their Recorded Music Library. Roger recorded more than 20 albums of his compositions for the label starting in the mid-1950s. His recordings include the pieces “Chinese Bolero” and “Venetian Intermezzo”. His composition “Volatiles” became a signature tune for the France Inter radio station. In the United Kingdom, he frequently broadcast on the BBC Radio Light Programme. Roger married Eva Rehfuss in 1973. He died in 1995. His work received renewed interest posthumously, including the release of compilations used as audio for test card transmissions in the United Kingdom.
