Biography

Born in 1985 in UviÃ©u, Asturias, Rodrigo Cuevas studied piano and tuba at the Conservatory of Oviedo and later sound studies at ESMUC in Barcelona. He moved to Galicia, where he lived in A Lama for eight years and discovered traditional Galician music and culture. There, he formed the duo La Dolorosa CompaÃ±Ãa, blending copla with freak-pop. Known for mixing electronic beats with folk traditions, Cuevas combines rural aesthetics with cabaret flair. Dubbed the âFreddie Mercury of Asturian folklore,â he earned multiple awards, including Spainâs National Prize for Current Music in 2023 and El Ojo CrÃtico award in 2022.
