Biography

Born in 1985 in Uviéu, Asturias, Rodrigo Cuevas studied piano and tuba at the Conservatory of Oviedo and later sound studies at ESMUC in Barcelona. He moved to Galicia, where he lived in A Lama for eight years and discovered traditional Galician music and culture. There, he formed the duo La Dolorosa Compañía, blending copla with freak-pop. Known for mixing electronic beats with folk traditions, Cuevas combines rural aesthetics with cabaret flair. Dubbed the “Freddie Mercury of Asturian folklore,” he earned multiple awards, including Spain’s National Prize for Current Music in 2023 and El Ojo Crítico award in 2022.
