Biography
Robert Goldsand, born on March 17, 1911, in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, was an Austrian-American classical pianist. He began his musical studies at age four and focused on piano soon after, making his performing debut at ten with a concert in Vienna. Goldsandâs U.S. debut followed in 1927 at Town Hall in New York City. In 1939, fleeing the Nazis, he settled permanently in the United States. His repertoire ranged from J.S. Bach to 20th-century composers such as Hindemith and included a complete cycle of Chopinâs recital works performed in six concerts in 1949. Goldsand taught at the Cincinnati Conservatory before joining the Manhattan School of Music faculty in 1951, where he remained until 1990. He died of diabetes on September 16, 1991, in Danbury, Connecticut.
