Biography

Rising Sons was an American folk rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The original lineup consisted of Ry Cooder, Taj Mahal, Gary Marker, Jesse Lee Kincaid, and Ed Cassidy. The group played at local clubs such as The Troubadour and The Ash Grove before signing with Columbia Records. Its only album, produced by Terry Melcher, was not released during its active years. The band's only single, "Candy Man" backed with "The Devil's Got My Woman", was issued in February 1966. The group disbanded in late 1966. Despite a short career, the band launched the careers of Mahal and Cooder. Nearly three decades after the disbandment, Columbia released the archival album, Rising Sons Featuring Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder, on September 11, 1992.
