Biography
Rheinische Kantorei, a vocal ensemble from Germany, was founded in 1977 by conductor Hermann Max. The group initially consisted of 12 to 32 singers and collaborated with notable soloists such as soprano Barbara Schlick, tenors Paul Elliot and Christoph Prégardien, and basses Gotthold Schwarz and Stephen Varcoe. Their repertoire primarily focused on Renaissance and Baroque music but also included classical and romantic works. The ensemble explored the works of various generations of the Bach family, as well as predecessors like Franz Tunder and contemporaries such as Johann Friedrich Fasch. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, they released numerous albums featuring compositions by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann, and Wilhelm Friedemann Bach.
